Super-Pharm is the largest, leading drugstore chain in Israel. The company was founded by the Koffler family in 1978, and today comprises of 186 branches nationwide – from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Eilat in the south, offering the widest possible range of medication, health products, vitamins, cosmetics, toiletries and baby products. In 2013, the company’s revenues totaled over $1.36 billion, including international activities.
Setting New Retail Standards
Super-Pharm was inspired by Shoppers Drug Mart, a leading drugstore chain in Canada, established in 1962 by Murray Koffler, Leon Koffler’s father. The company’s core strength and distinctiveness - the expertise, professionalism and service culture branches, have set new standards for retailers and formed a new consumer culture in Israel. The Super-Pharm shopping experience offers clean stores, wide aisles, qualified assistance, convenient store hours and readily available parking. These, along with constant identification of customer needs and adaptation of the stores and the variety of merchandise to the ever-changing market, bring 4.5 million customers into Super-Pharm stores, every month. The company’s greatest strength lies in the 7000 employees, who have developed with the company over the years and have been trained at the Koffler Academy in professional standards of retail management.
In the early 2000’s, perceiving that the unique concept of the chain would suit the needs of customers in other countries, Super-Pharm took its first steps outside of Israel. In 2001, the chain opened the first stores in Poland, growing to more than 50 branches. In 2013 Super-Pharm will open a drugstore chain in Beijing, China.
The Associate System
Super-Pharm’s Associates and employees are its main asset. The Associate System is a unique franchising method. The Associate, usually a pharmacist, is the owner of the company which operates the branch, while the property, the licenses and the financial credit, are provided by the Central Office. The Associate is responsible for operational results and the company provides corporate expertise, marketing campaigns, trade agreements and financing. This system works as an incentive for the Associates’ success. It has proven to achieve the most profitable outcome for both Super-Pharm and its Associates.
The Central Office
The Super-Pharm Central Office in Herzliya formulates strategy and provides support to the stores. The office includes Marketing, Commerce, Operations, IT management, Assets, Human Resources, Financing, Economics, Real Estate and Administration departments with a staff of 250 employees.
Service is one of Super-Pharm’s primary core values. This is an integral part of the company’s culture, and it is this, which defines the company’s long standing excellence.
Super-Pharm branches are located in malls, shopping centers, city centers and suburbs. The average store size is approximately of 500 sq.m.
The Pharmacy: The anchor of every store, dispenses prescription drugs and over-the-counter medication to private customers and Health Insurance customers. The company’s pharmacists are renowned for their professional knowledge and expertise as well as their service skills.
Health products and food supplements: Vitamins, minerals, dietary supplements, herbal medicines, natural cosmetics, dermocosmetics and holistic medical treatments.
Cosmetics: A wide range of leading popular brands of perfumes and beauty products, sold by professional beauty consultants.
Toiletries: A large section of shelve space, particularly near the entrance to the store, is dedicated to a variety of shampoos, hair conditioners, deodorants, shaving products, hair color and many other products.
Baby Department: All products and accessories needed for babies and infants.
At the end of 2011 super-pharm started operating a central distribution logistics center which was established for them by Chemipal in order to improve products availability and the service to the stores. Chemipal was awarded the tender for the construction and operation of the logistics center in 2008 and since then have built a warehouse that is spread over an area of 10,000 square meters and is located at the Lev Haaretz Park in Rosh Haayin.
Super-Pharm was the first chain to market a Private Label in 1994, and today Life is a fully fledged brand, offering a broad range of health and beauty products, medicines, vitamins, toiletries, baby products, cosmetics, health foods etc. These are produced by the leading manufacturers in every field. In addition, Super-Pharm introduces SUNDAY - a home care private label.
Super-Pharm was the first company in Israel to launch a Consumer Club in 1997 – the Life Style Club, which benefited its members at Super-Pharm as well as at other chains. In 2009, Super-Pharm upgraded the club and launched LifeStyle PLUS, a credit card issued in cooperation with Isracard for use both in Israel and abroad. The club boasts more than 450 thousand customers and club membership provides regular benefits at a wide range of businesses including Issta, Delek, McDonalds, Toys R Us, Kravitz, Go Active Fitness clubs and others.
Super-Pharm believes in giving back to the community in which it operates. Super-Pharm has initiated activities in hospitals, schools and various community centers. The chain also offers fund - raising opportunities, whereby the company donates the value of selected items bought by customers at the check-out counters.
