In 2014, the Company ranked seventh in the world in the overall crop protection industry, and first among those companies focused on the sale of off-patent products. The Company is characterized by its farmer-centric approach to product development, and strict standards of environmental protection and quality control. With its reliable and effective solutions, Adama is playing a key role in the effort to increase food production globally, to feed a growing world. The company in its current form was established by the 1997 merger of two leading Israeli crop protection companies, Makhteshim and Agan, established in 1952 and 1945 respectively. From their merger in 1997 until the end of October 2011, the company was publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. In 2011, ChemChina (the China National Chemical Corporation) acquired a 60% stake in the company, with the remaining 40% remaining in the hands of Koor Industries Ltd, and the company was delisted. The company rolled out its new global brand name - Adama - in 2014.
Crop Protection Products
Adama’s principal area of activity is in the crop protection sector, where around 94% of the company’s revenues are generated. The company’s crop protection product range includes five main product families: herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, growth regulators and seed treatments. These products improve the quality and quantity of crop yields by providing protection from weeds, pests and diseases. The company also leverages its expertise in plant protection to develop and customize similar products for non-crop use, such as in home and garden, forestry, turf and ornamental applications.
Additional Activities (Non-Agrochemical Products)
Adama further leverages its chemical and industrial know-how to develop, manufacture and market additional products in subsidiary businesses that focus on health and specialty foods and ingredients, specialty aroma chemicals and other industrial chemicals. These activities account for around 6% of the company’s revenues.
Global Manufacturing and Marketing
Adama continually strengthens its leading role as a global provider of comprehensive, effective and reliable crop protection solutions for farmers. The company has several manufacturing facilities worldwide, with key facilities located in Israel (in Neot Hovav and Ashdod) and Brazil, with additional new facilities currently being established in China. In addition, the company has smaller manufacturing facilities in Colombia, Mexico, USA, Italy, Poland, Spain, Greece, South Korea and India.
Adama has one of the largest crop protection sales and marketing networks in the world, including around 50 marketing companies located in the company’s largest markets in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Africa, which sell to over 120 countries. The company has over 4,500 employees worldwide.

In recent years, the Group has invested significant resources to ensure that it meets the most advanced global environmental standards, and in reducing the environmental footprint of our facilities.
In 2014, the company achieved record sales of $3.2 billion, an increase of 5% over the previous year, and Net Income of $151 million, an increase of 19% over 2013.
